Not all consignment shops offer furniture and few have very much that is designer-quality. Still, we found a few we thought were worth a serious stroll through for some hidden decorative treasures:
1) Lido Consignment Gallery, 2700 West Coast Highway, Suite 115, Newport Beach, entrance in back. Lots of space – 20,000 square feet of it – with a wide variety of styles, eras, reproductions and the real thing. From $250 Pottery Barn sofas to a massive neo-classical ornate dining table that seats 10 for $995 to three-piece antique trunk set for $375. Clearance upstairs that includes a gorgeous finely carved pew for $500.
2) The Accent’s On Us, 23552 Commerce Center Drive, Suites E and F, Laguna Hills. A lot of the usual bric-a-brac, then suddenly the surprise of an exquisite 97-piece Limoges china set for $2,800, an elk-skin rug for $450 or a 1913 wooden propeller for $6,500.
3) Grasons Co. Consignment and Estate Sales, 18281 Gothard Street, Huntington Beach. In a warehouse district, in a warehouse, no less, on a recent hunt we found a reasonably priced Hoosier, a cane rocker and modestly (but correctly priced) art.
