William Lucas Painting

WILLIAM LUCAS, (English, 1840-1895), signed oil on canvas, (1884), portrait of a standing lady in a black dress with lace apron, straw and red silk bonnet, carved and matte gilded wood frame. Lucas was said to be an admirer of Sarah Bernhardt, French actress born 1844. Sarah posed for many tableaus vivants and possibly was an inspiration for this painting.
